Could you help us reach our target and fund more nurses like Karuna?

Our progress to £70,000

Last year, our team of clinicians, including Karuna, supported 4,555 patients and their families, including Laura and her husband Darren.  When the hospital told them that Laura’s cancer had spread, Laura and Darren turned to Rennie Grove Peace for support. Darren shares their story:

“Laura and I were married on 5 April 2023 just a few days before she was admitted to the Rennie Grove Peace Inpatient Unit (IPU).  She was a highflyer who loved her family and career fiercely – and also had a passion for fashion. An intrinsically kind person but a straight talking one, Laura was someone her many friends knew they could rely on when they needed advice or a shoulder to cry on. But when it was Laura who needed help at an incredibly challenging time it was the team at Rennie Grove Peace that stepped in to support not only her but her loved ones too.

“Laura didn’t want to die at home. She spent six weeks in the IPU. At first I didn’t know what to expect, but as soon as we arrived we both felt looked after. Laura had her own room so I could stay with her 24/7.  Everything was done for us, if Laura was in pain, within five minutes this was being treated by a nurse. Nothing was too much trouble, they looked after our son James, myself and the wider family too – they knew what we were going through.

“Laura died on a Sunday. Her last words to me were, ‘Am I going to die?’ I told her I didn’t know. She fell asleep and didn’t wake up. From Laura’s diagnosis to death was 10 weeks and I cherish the time we had. 

It’s thanks to Rennie Grove Peace that in those final 10 weeks, I could just be Laura’s husband.“

Last year, just 14% of our funding came from the NHS and Government.  The remaining 86% comes from our generous supporters.
