Meet our Presidents

Our Presidents, Rennie Grove’s co-founders Moira Rennie MBE and Dr Mary Groves MBE, and Professor Stephen Spiro OBE, former Chair of the Board of Trustees at Rennie Grove.

Our Presidents

Our Presidents are at the very heart of the charity – Moira Rennie MBE, Dr Mary Groves MBE, and Professor Stephen Spiro OBE. Moira is the widow of the very first patient, Iain Rennie, after whom Iain Rennie Hospice at Home was named. Mary was instrumental in launching the appeal that created Grove House in St Albans, recognising a need for specialist cancer services in the area. Stephen was Chair of the Board of Trustees at Rennie Grove where he was the driving force in transforming hospice care and ensuring more people than ever had access to its services.

Moira is the widow of the very first patient – Iain Rennie – after whom Iain Rennie Hospice at Home was named.

“I send my heartfelt thanks to all our nurses and the supporters who have stood by us during a time of significant change and growth. I am so pleased that the Iain Rennie ethos of 24/7 patient-centred care has remained at the heart of everything that Rennie Grove Hospice Care does for local families.”

Dr Mary Groves MBE

Dr Mary Groves saw the need for specialist cancer services in the locality and was instrumental in launching the appeal that created Grove House.

“It has been a great privilege to take on the co-presidency of Rennie Grove Hospice Care. As a founder member of Grove House I am delighted to see the way in which services there have developed and now that it has combined with Iain Rennie the two services are working together to facilitate excellent care for even more people in need.”

Professor Stephen Spiro OBE

Professor Stephen Spiro has a clinical background in respiratory medicine and was chair of Rennie Grove from 2013 to January 2023.  In this time he oversaw huge growth – from fundraised income to patient services, volunteer numbers and its popular retail operation.

“It is an honour to become a Joint-President of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care. My ten years as Chair of Trustees at Rennie Grove saw great developments for the charity culminating in the merger with Peace Hospice.  It is a joy to see excellence in hospice care provided 24/7, for an increasing number of patients in the local community and a wider range of support for patients following diagnosis.”
