Question of Sport tops £100,000

The annual Rennie Grove Peace Question of Sport fundraising event has raised an incredible £100,000!

The popular sports-themed evening saw 247 corporate supporters of the charity gather at Sopwell House for an evening of quizzes, fundraising activity and delicious food.

During the event, our Palliative Medicine Consultant, Dr Lisa Nolan, shared with the audience her reflections on working in our Inpatient Unit at Peace Hospice. She moved the room with stories of her interactions with patients and how she and her team get to know each individual in their care to identify the things that will enable them to get the most from every day – whether that is managing their pain to allow them a ride in their prized car or supplying the medication needed for a family to make a last trip to the beach.

The big event of the evening – the sports quiz – was hosted by sports broadcaster, Geoff Shreeves and won by a team from long-standing supporters of Rennie Grove Peace, Sherrards in St Albans.

In addition to ticket sales, money was raised on the night through a raffle as well as a live and silent auction that boasted lots such as champagne afternoon tea at Pendley Manor Hotel, a handmade suit from Waterers of St Albans, Wimbledon Centre Court tickets and a day at the races.

“What a fantastic night and an incredible amount raised. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of our entire corporate community – particularly Aitchison Raffety, our headline sponsor, and Kane Haulage, our drink sponsor. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Geoff Shreeves and Kevin Luckhurst who are handing over the reins after 11 years of organising the event and making it the fantastic success it now is.

“Thank you to everybody who supported the event, attended on the night and helped us reach this fantastic fundraising amount. Every penny raised will be used to fund vital hospice care for local people.”
