Mayor raises £18,857 for Rennie Grove Peace!

Cllr Prerna Bhardwaj, Mayor and Chairman of Gerrards Cross Town Council, is celebrating raising £18,857 for Rennie Grove Peace, after choosing us as her mayoral charity.

Over the course of her 2024-2025 term of office, Councillor Bhardwaj supported Rennie Grove Peace in a number of ways, such as running the Watford Half Marathon and hosting a charity dinner.

Councillor Bhardwaj was motivated to support Rennie Grove Peace after witnessing firsthand the care a hospice provided to her aunt, Sushma Lau, before she sadly died just before Prerna’s election in May 2024.

“In the last days of my aunt's life, I saw the tremendous amount of care and dedication that hospices provide. Hospices deliver an invaluable service to those in the final stages of their lives so I’m delighted to be supporting Rennie Grove Peace. I am not a regular runner so I am really stepping out of my comfort zone to help this great cause!”

After raising £1,451 in sponsorship for the race, Prerna turned her attention to a charity fundraising dinner.

Hosted at Stoke Park in March, the evening saw guests enjoy dinner and an auction in the stunning surroundings of the Glass House at Stoke Park.

At the event, our ambassador, Peter, spoke about the work Rennie Grove Peace do and how the money raised would be used to provide patient-centred palliative care and bereavement support within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

The evening raised a total of £17,257.99.

Along with the half marathon and a collection at her civic service, the total raised for Rennie Grove Peace during Councillor Bhardwaj’s mayoral term was £18,857.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Councillor Bhardwaj for choosing Rennie Grove Peace as her mayoral charity. Her support has not only raised a fantastic amount of money to provide care for people within Buckinghamshire and west Hertfordshire who need it, it has also helped to raise awareness of what we do.”
