An un-fore-gettable day!
Watford legend, Luther Blissett OBE DL, and football royalty, Harry Redknapp, were among the 100-strong group that teed off for our annual golf day at The Grove this week.
So far an incredible £41,000 has been raised to fund our vital hospice care services to local people.
On the day the 25 four-balls met at The Grove for breakfast before teeing off at 10.30 am. The golfers all played 18 holes including participating in a number of competitions on their way round the course – such as ‘Beat the Pro’ and trying to get an elusive ‘hole in one’. After the 18th hole they retired to The Players’ Lounge for a game of ‘Heads and Tails’ followed by a late carvery lunch.
After lunch, guests heard a personal testimony from Ben Brocklesby, Sales and Marketing Director at the event’s headline sponsor, Origin Global. Ben movingly detailed the care his grandmother and father received from our Hospice at Home teams at the end of their lives, to bring home the reason behind the fundraising.
After lunch our patron, Luther Blissett OBE DL, hosted a lively auction with prizes ranging from a luxury stay at The Grove to tickets to Premier League football matches.
Jackie Jackson is our corporate partnerships executive. She said:
“It was great to see such an amazing turn out at our annual golf day from the local business community. As a charity that receives only 14% statutory funding, we cannot continue to run our services without the support of our community and this is one of the key events in our fundraising calendar. I’d also like to thank His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss CBE CStJ, for joining us and delivering a speech in his role as the charity’s patron.
“The day wouldn’t have been possible without the support of so many local businesses that generously donated raffle and auction prizes as well as sponsoring holes and competitions on the day. A huge thank you as well to our headline sponsor, Origin Global, for its continued support and helping us to raise an incredible amount to fund vital hospice care in our local communities.”
