Karuna’s Story

Meet Karuna: Inpatient Unit Nurse

Karuna has been part of the team for 2 years. She explains why her role is not only important to patients and those around them, but also to her.

As a staff nurse at the Inpatient Unit, my responsibilities include providing comprehensive palliative care to patients with life-limiting illnesses. This involves managing pain and symptoms, offering emotional support to patients and their families, coordinating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care, and administering medications. I also play a crucial role in creating care plans tailored to each patient’s needs and supporting end-of-life care.”

What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families during such a critical time. Being able to provide comfort, support, and dignity to those in their final stages of life is incredibly rewarding. I value the deep connections I form with patients and the trust they place in me, which motivates me to deliver the highest standard of care.”

Working in the Inpatient Unit makes me feel profoundly fulfilled and honoured. It is a privilege to be part of a team dedicated to providing compassionate care to patients at the most vulnerable time of their lives. While the work can be emotionally challenging, it is also immensely gratifying to see the positive impact we can have on our patients’ quality of life. The supportive environment within the Inpatient Unit, where everyone is committed to the same goal of providing exceptional care, makes it a place of both professional and personal growth.”
