A team of over 30 colleagues is planning to take on this weekend’s Rudolph Run to support a colleague who has been cared for by our Hospice at Home team.

Harry Thompson, from Wheathampstead, was diagnosed with an anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumour in 2022 while working in IT for Welwyn Garden City-based PayPoint Group.

Earlier this year Harry was referred Hospice at Home care and his PayPoint Group colleagues decided to do something to raise money while supporting their friend.

Katy Wilde is the Chief People Officer at Paypoint Group and explains:

“Harry is a very popular member of staff who is loved by people across the business. Harry and his family can’t speak highly enough of the support they’ve received from Rennie Grove Peace so when a group of colleagues decided to do a fundraising challenge in support of Harry, we knew we wanted to raise money for the charity.

“Harry’s teammates came up with the idea only a couple of weeks ago and since then we’ve got together a group of over 30 colleagues. We chose the Rudolph Run as it’s a very inclusive event that appeals to a lot of colleagues and means people can bring their families along on the day.

“We’ve made t-shirts that say ‘Running for Harry’ so everybody who sees us running through St Albans on Sunday will know why! We’ve set up a fundraising page for the event and we’ve already been touched by the amount of support we’ve had. We just want to raise as much money as possible to show our support to Harry and give something back to the charity that has looked after him so well.”

Gemma Ralph, our community fundraising manager, added:

“It’s wonderful to have the PayPoint Group team taking part in this year’s event. The Rudolph Run really is open to everybody and it’s not too late to sign up. If you haven’t already booked your place you can turn up on Sunday and register at the Waterend Barn Pub from 10am. We look forward to seeing as many local people as possible on the day”.
