Batchwood Golf Club’s charity of the year!
We’re delighted that Batchwood Golf Club’s men’s and ladies’ captains have both named Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care as their charity of the year.
Richard Sullivan and Gill Burnett chose us as their charity of the year because they have friends and relatives who have benefitted from hospice care. The pair have completed a traditional ‘drive-in’ at the club, to mark the beginning of their terms, and used it as an opportunity to kick off their fundraising via sponsorship and an auction. Next on the list is taking on our London Bridges Walk, in March!
Richard says:
“All our members are local so we wanted to support a charity that is local to us and has touched the lives of many of our members. I know some people at the club have accessed the charity’s services, especially at Grove House in St Albans, so we knew everybody would be very supportive of this cause.”
“We’ve signed up as a ‘four-ball’ with fellow golfer, Pam Olden, and my wife, Jane. We chose the London Bridges Walk as it’s perfect for us. I’ve taken part in marathons and triathlons in the past but those days are behind me. Taking on a scenic walk through London seemed a great way to kick off our fundraising.”
Gill adds:
“A lot of our fundraising over the year will take place at the club and we’ll be relying on the same people to attend and support our events. By taking part in the London Bridges Walk we can seek sponsorship from friends and family outside the club, to really boost our fundraising. So far we’ve raised over £1,500 in sponsorship for the London Bridges Walk alone.”
“We’re keen to raise as much money as we can for the charity through various events this year. The members really are very generous and I know they’ll support us in fundraising for Rennie Grove Peace this year. It’s a win-win situation as the events and fundraising activities really boost the community feel of the club, as well as raising vital funds for a local charity.”
