“Our friend Gerry was a keen and very good golfer and we enjoyed many happy times playing together. Gerry unfortunately received a cancer diagnosis and, despite him fighting back, passed away with his final days of care under the support of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care. We felt it would be fitting to celebrate his life with a golf challenge and raise some funds for the hospice. The 72 hole Golfathon was something none of us had done before and we liked the challenge. Golfers will know how hard 2 rounds in a day are, let alone 4! It was great fun to do, we had great weather and plenty of laughs. If you fancy a challenge for a great charity then this is the one for you!”

Sunrise to Sunset Golf Challenge FAQs
Please see below for information about the Golf Day or email: community.fundraising@renniegrovepeace.org or call 01442 89 02 22.
It’s a golf challenge to raise money for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care. We’re asking you to chip in for your local Hospice and go this distance this summer to tackle either 36 or 72 holes in one day.
Choose between:
- 4 rounds, 72 holes, 26 miles
- 2 rounds, 36 holes, 13 miles
The date of the challenge is up to you, but we recommend doing the challenge over the longer summer days – to give you enough hours of daylight to get around them all.
We recommend contacting your nearest golf course explaining that you’re raising money for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care by taking part in the Sunrise to Sunset Golf Challenge. We can provide you with a Letter of Authority form to support you in contacting the course – email community.fundraising@renniegrovepeace.org
There’s no registration fee, but we ask you to raise £1,000 in sponsorship per fourball (£250 per person) if you’re taking on 72 holes. Or £700 in sponsorship per fourball (£175 per person) if you’re taking on 36 holes. It’s down to the golf club you arrange your day with whether they waive or reduce any fees, and whether they can provide a golf buggy if needed.
We recommend setting up a Just Giving page to raise your sponsorship.
72 holes: We ask you to raise a minimum of £250 each (so £1000 per team). £1000 could pay for a Healthcare Assistant for six days, in our Inpatient Unit or in a patient’s home, to help with personal care.
36 holes: We ask you to raise a minimum of £175 each (so £700 per team). £700 could pay for a physiotherapist for three days, in our Inpatient Unit or in a patient’s home, to help manage symptoms and aid relaxation.
Our fundraising team will be on hand to support your fundraising, so please get in touch if you have any questions. You can contact our team on 01442 89 02 22 or drop us an email at community.fundraising@renniegrovepeace.org

Yes, they can! However, any team with members under 18 years old must have at least one parent or guardian in the same team to undertake the challenge. It must also be agreed with the Golf Club in advance.
It’s entirely up to you. The Rennie Grove Peace Sunrise to Sunset Challenge is primarily about completing the challenge to raise money for your local Hospice.
To save time, we recommend that you play off the forward tees.
We think that for the best possible experience (and challenge) you should take on your race by foot. However, we understand that in certain circumstances a buggy is necessary to complete the race.
You can reach our fundraising team on 01442 89 02 22 or drop us an email today – community.fundraising@renniegrovepeace.org
If you’re not a member of a golf club the first step is finding a course that will host you.
- Speak to a friend who is a member of a golf club in Herts or Bucks, get them to join you on your team and see if they can help you secure your day at a local club.
- Speak to the club, find out who oversees booking tee times, explain what you’re doing and show how it will be good publicity for the club.
- Show them your Letter of Authority and mention Rennie Grove Peace is their local charity and Hospice.
- Choose a day in the week less likely to have competitions and opt for a golf course which is less busy if you can.
