What is Hospice Care Week?
Hospice Care Week takes place from 5-11 October, and this year we want to encourage people to not leave hospice care to chance. The week is an opportunity to shine a light on the vital work hospices do and help raise funds to protect local hospice care for the future.
To mark Hospice Care Week, we will be hosting a range of events and activities throughout the week, with plenty of opportunities to get involved, learn more and show your support.

- Why conversations about loss, thinking ahead, death and dying are often avoided – and why they matter
- Common reactions in grief and misconceptions that surround it
- Some practical guidance for anyone supporting someone who is grieving due to a loss
Time for Tea
Date: 5-11 October, or any other time in October

What’s on: We’re inviting you to put the kettle on for Hospice Care Week, and host a coffee morning, tea party or workplace get-together as part of our Time for Tea event to raise vital funds for local hospice care. This is a great opportunity to gather friends, family, neighbours or colleagues over tea, coffee and cake, and make a real difference to local people who need hospice care and bereavement support. Whether your event is big or small, every tea shared and every donation raised helps us continue to provide expert care and support when it’s needed most. If you can’t make it in Hospice Care Week or in October, choose another date that works for you!

Thinking ahead – a conversation about future care, Harpenden
Where: Bennetts Hall, Harpenden, AL5 2HU
Date/time: Thursday 8 October 2026, 2-4pm

What’s on: To mark Hospice Care Week, we are hosting a free community event in partnership with Harpenden Health PCN & Trust, ‘Thinking ahead – a conversation about future care’. This event is for any locals who have ever wondered how to plan for the future, support a loved one, or who simply want to learn more. They will have the chance to learn about the benefits of key tools such as Advance Care Planning and the ReSPECT form, which help ensure that an individual’s preferences are known and respected. Staff from Rennie Grove Peace will be on hand to explain the support offered locally and to answer questions. This event offers a safe space for people to understand their options, ask questions, and talk openly about death and dying – because it really does matter.
