💜 Help children and young people navigate grief, loss and difficult times
We’re looking for caring, compassionate volunteers to provide support to children and young people whose parent, or close family member is seriously ill or has died. Your time, kindness and encouragement can help them feel heard, understood and supported when they need it most.
As a Children and Young People’s Support Volunteer, you’ll work one-to-one with children and young people, helping them explore and express their thoughts and feelings through conversation, creative activities and play. Every child is different, so you’ll tailor your approach to meet their individual needs and age.
What will I be doing?
🌟 Building trusting relationships with children and young people
🎨 Using creative activities such as art, crafts, memory boxes, storytelling and play to help children express themselves
💬 Providing one-to-one emotional support in a child-centred way
🏠 Meeting children and young people in their homes, schools, hospice buildings or other agreed venues
🤝 Supporting parents and carers to help them support their children
📚 Occasionally helping schools and staff understand how best to support children experiencing grief and loss
👥 Attending monthly supervision sessions and working as part of a supportive team
💻 Supporting children either face-to-face and/or virtually depending on their needs
