Lend a hand

Both events will give local people a chance to speak to existing volunteers and staff about opportunities in their community.   

The first of the open days will be held at the Peace Hospice site (Peace Drive, Watford, WD17 3PH) from 2pm to 5pm on Wednesday 7 June. This event will particularly focus on our newly expanded Supporting Hands scheme.

The Supporting Hands service was set up in 2017 to offer companionship and practical help to people with a life-limiting illness. By supporting patients, volunteers help to free up valuable nursing time and offer desperately needed respite to carers looking after loved ones with a life-limiting illness.

Thanks to our merger with Peace Hospice Care the service is now expanding to Watford and the surrounding areas.

The second open day will take place at Grove House, St Albans, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 8 June. This event will particularly focus on our newly expanded Compassionate Neighbours scheme.  

Compassionate Neighbours is part of a nationwide programme that supports local people who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation as a result of living with a life-limiting illness or bereavement.

The scheme has been established at Peace Hospice Care, with which we are currently merging, for a number of years, and expanded to St Albans and the surrounding areas, earlier this year.

With a time commitment from as little as one hour per week and volunteers matched with a patient local to them, both schemes give people a chance to make a difference in their own community, in a way that fits around their other commitments.
