The trio signed up for the St Albans Half Marathon after a client told them about the event. They have decided to use it to fundraise for Peace Hospice Care, with which we are currently merging, to thank the charity for the care and support one of the women’s families received.
Saskia, a stylist at the salon, sadly lost her mum to breast cancer in 2020. She was cared for by Peace Hospice Care during her final weeks and Saskia has been keen to fundraise for the hospice ever since. She said:
“When my mum was ill she was an inpatient at the Peace Hospice site in Watford on and off for a period of about three months. The care she received there was wonderful. The nurses were all so kind and supportive and did everything they could to make her comfortable. It was a very difficult time for the whole family but I remember that the team at Peace Hospice looked after the whole family, not just my mum. They were also very supportive of my dad and me.”
In a bid to raise money for the Hospice so that other local families can benefit from the same level of care, Saskia persuaded her colleagues, Emily and Ellie, to join her in signing up for the St Albans Walking Half Marathon. She said:
“I’ve never done anything like this before so it is a real challenge. It’s great to be doing it as a team because it means we can go out and train together. We try to get out for long walks during our lunch break as part of our preparations for the big day.
“We’ve set a fundraising target of £500 and we’re all encouraging our families, friends and clients to sponsor us. People have been very generous so far and we’re really looking forward to the day. We’ve all got some of our friends and relatives coming down to support us and the atmosphere should be great.”
