Sounds Around the Abbey

St Albans Cathedral is hosting 3 consecutive evenings of music from different genres including rock, pop and West End classics to help raise money for Rennie Grove Peace.

Sounds Around the Abbey

Music to our ears

The three-day Sounds Around the Abbey musical spectacular, that raises money for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, will return to St Albans this month.

The performances, that take place on three consecutive evenings from Thursday 25 – Saturday 27 July 2024, will once again bring a mix of rock, pop and West End classics to St Albans Cathedral.

Now in its fifth year, the musical spectacular will raise funds to add to the £115,000 already raised over the years.

The shows – directed by Pippa D Collins and hosted by Rosemarie Ford – will bring music fans a variety of well-known, as well as some less well-known songs, spanning an eclectic mix of musical genres.

The programme will include performances from the Brilliant Theatre Academy of Performing Arts (all three nights), The Jupiter Singers (Thursday 25 July and Friday 26 July) and The London Show Choir (Saturday 27 July), all accompanied by a live band led by musical director, Matt Pallant.

At each of the shows, West End stars Hugh Maynard (The Lion King, Miss Saigon, Sweeney Todd) and Aimee Atkinson (Six, Pretty Woman) will be performing hits from popular shows.

Chris Langford is a Rennie Grove Peace Vice President and the driving force behind the concerts. He says:

“Sounds Around the Abbey has become a real staple in the local social calendar and is a unique opportunity to experience West End stars performing alongside local adult and youth choirs, in the iconic surroundings of St Albans Abbey. We are looking forward to another exciting, happy and successful event that will help to raise vital funds for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.”

Gemma Ralph, our community fundraising manager, adds:

“Sounds Around the Abbey is a wonderful community event that wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of Chris and Pippa who organise the concerts, and our event sponsors – M. K. Ginder & Sons and Origin. I’d like to thank them all for their time, energy and commitment in raising funds to provide much needed hospice care in the local area.”
