Sublime Strings – a special one-off concert at Cadogan Hall

Get June off to a glorious start this year with your own slice of musical history. Three internationally-acclaimed young musicians are giving a special one-off concert with all proceeds going to Rennie Grove.

The concert, at London’s Cadogan Hall, is called Sublime Strings and promises a magical evening of music with Sheku-Kanneh-Mason, Braimah Kanneh-Mason and Plinio Fernandes. The trio will play genres from folk to classical, featuring works from Paganini and Bach as well as duets from Gnatali, Guliani, Piazolla and Ravel. It will also showcase Sheku’s own arrangement of Bloch’s poignant Prayer.

The three musicians, who will perform on cello, violin and guitar, have impressive track records. Sheku first shot to fame when he won the BBC’s Young Musician competition in 2016. Two years later he performed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk. His brother Braimah is a Royal Academy-trained violinist and his friend and duo partner Plinio Fernandes is a Brazilian guitarist with a fast-growing international reputation. All three are outstanding chamber musicians.

They’ve carefully picked their programme to give the audience a unique insight into how their three instruments can complement each other in different styles and contexts.

Sheku and Braimah come from a talented musical family. They and their five siblings are all classically trained in violin, piano or cello. The family released its first album, Carnival, on Decca Classics, in 2020 and last year won Best Classical Artist in the Global Awards. Plinio’s first album is due for release soon after the concert in London.
