We are delighted to announce the return of our annual London Bridges Walk – a family-friendly day out that takes in some of the capital’s most iconic bridges and landmarks.
With two different routes to choose from– one five miles long; the other ten miles – there is an option for all, no matter your walking ability. Walkers are encouraged to bring not only their relatives and friends, but their canine companions too!
This year the walk takes place on Sunday 24 March. The two routes begin at the Pear Tree Café in Battersea Park. With the five-mile route there will be five famous London bridges to admire, ending at Parliament Square. Those who opt for the longer ten-mile route will see no fewer than 12 bridges, ending with arguably the most recognisable one of all – Tower Bridge.
All participants will be awarded a medal on completion, as a keepsake from the day and a lovely reminder of what they have achieved.
The money raised through entry fees and sponsorship will be used to fund vital care and support for people living with progressive life-limiting illnesses in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
Becky took part in last year’s London Bridges Walk in memory of her mum, Dorene, who was cared for in the Peace Hospice Inpatient Unit at the end of her life.
Becky said: “Mum was diagnosed with bladder cancer in September 2022 and within a couple of months, we learned that her cancer had become terminal. It was then that we found out there was a bed available at the Peace Hospice. From that point on, Mum got her dignity back – she had a really peaceful, pain-free, dignified death and that’s all that we could ask.
"We decided to take part in London Bridges as a family because we wanted to give back and do something in memory of Mum – that’s what she would have appreciated and wanted. It was lovely to be in London and to take in the sights of the city at the same time as appreciating why we are all there – to remember Mum."
Tracey Hancock, our Director of Fundraising, says:
“We’re delighted to be bringing this popular event back. The London Bridges Walk is a fantastic family day out. You walk at your own pace so there is time to stop for a coffee or buy lunch along the route if you like.
“I’d like to thank our sponsor, Origin Global, for supporting this year’s event and ensuring we can raise even more money to fund our vital services for local people living with life-limiting illnesses.”
