Sally’s mum, Brenda, has been receiving care from Peace Hospice Care since 2022. Sally says:

“Mum has complex medical conditions and was referred to Peace Hospice Care by her GP in July 2022 because of a change to her health that her nurse felt may be best controlled by palliative care specialists.

“At first the Palliative Response Team visited mum at home to offer care and support that enabled her to stay in her own home. This has always been very important to Mum and the care package that the Palliative Response Team was able to put in place, has made that possible.

“For us as a family it is very reassuring to know that the specialist care advice line is always available. If I ever have any concerns, help is just a phone call away. I’ve made use of this on many occasions when I was concerned about Mum’s heath, and the team was always able to offer help and support.

“In December 2022 Mum was admitted to Peace Hospice as an inpatient for pain control and symptom management support together with respite care. During her three-week stay on the unit the care, compassion and kind nature shown by all of the staff was truly commendable.

“Our family were all able to visit her during her stay and we were all made to feel most welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for the whole team at the Inpatient Unit. The doctors and nurses always took the time to explain to us how they were supporting Mum and the process of rehabilitation she was undergoing. This helped us all to understand what was happening and how we would be able to support her when she was discharged.

“When Mum was ready to be discharged, the Peace Hospice team did so with a care package in place. This included the Rapid Personalised Care Service visiting Mum twice per day at home. This enabled them to monitor her progress and ensure that Mum’s health continued to improve after her stay at the Inpatient Unit.

“Mum is still receiving regular visits from the Peace Hospice community team, together with ongoing consultations with the medical team. Without this support I’m sure Mum would not be doing as well as she is.

“My family and I would like to express our sincere thanks to all of the staff at the Peace Hospice Inpatient Unit and Palliative Response Team. We are extremely grateful for the continued support that we are receiving at this stage of my mother’s life.

“I can see that Peace Hospice Care is a real team effort that works thanks to the contributions of the volunteers and fundraisers as much as the clinical staff. The charity truly has changed our lives and the provision of continuous support and specialist knowledge at difficult and uncertain times is allowing Mum to fulfil her wishes to stay in her own home.”
