The Shaw Charitable Trust was established in Hillingdon in 1992 by local doctor Dr Joan Shaw on her retirement, to support the elderly in the Borough. After running a home for the elderly for many years the Trust refocused on supporting older people to help them stay in their own homes.
The trustees now believe that their funds will have the greatest impact by supporting innovative strategies within a larger care organisation and have selected Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care for this purpose.
Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care is our newly created charity that was formed by the merger of Rennie Grove Hospice Care and Peace Hospice Care. Watford-based Peace Hospice Care has been providing hospice care services to people of Watford and the surrounding areas, including Hillingdon, for over 30 years.
As part of this merger, we are expanding and consolidating our offering, as well as establishing new services for the benefit of local patients. The money donated by The Shaw Charitable Trust will be used to support the development of our new Coordination Centre to coordinate patient care and streamline patient pathways, and to establish a virtual ward for patients. A further generous gift from the Trust received earlier in the year enabled the roll out of a patient record system which has paved the way for significant developments in patient care.

“The new virtual ward is being developed to offer patients digital access to medical treatment and care from our dedicated team of nurses and doctors, without leaving home. Working alongside our existing services, the virtual ward will enable our clinical team to provide enhanced specialist support and advice to patients in the community through virtual consultations. This means patients and their families can access outstanding care wherever and whenever they need it.
“The virtual ward will enable patients to remain at home with their loved ones, while maintaining a level of independence, and give patients who are nearing the end of life the opportunity to die at home, if that is their wish.”
