Harpenden man to tackle seven marathons in six weeks

For many of us, the idea of running one marathon would be daunting; tackling two simply terrifying. This Autumn, however, Harpenden runner Dan Reynolds is planning to run seven marathons in just six weeks to raise funds for Rennie Grove.

Dan’s magnificent seven starts in London at the beginning of October and takes in marathons in Chicago, Chelmsford, Abingdon, Huntingdon, Milton Keynes and finally finishes in Athens in mid-November.

The 31-year-old is no stranger to marathons. He completed his first, in Berlin, in 2016 and now runs “one or two” a year though admits he has never tried seven back-to-back.

Dan is running in memory of his mother’s partner, Alan, who died of cancer last year. As he explains: “It all happened so quickly – there were only six weeks between his first symptoms and his death. It was a terrible shock to us all and I’ve chosen to run all seven marathons within the space of six weeks to highlight how quickly it all happened.”

“During Alan’s short battle with cancer, Rennie Grove was incredibly helpful and supportive and they’ve continued to support my Mum since Alan’s death. I want to repay Rennie Grove for their continued care.”

Dan will be one of 20 runners taking part in the London Marathon on behalf of Rennie Grove, all with their own reasons for raising money to support our work.

Gemma Ralph, senior community lead at Rennie Grove Hospice Care, said: “It’s wonderful to have such a strong team running the London Marathon for Rennie Grove this year. For anybody to take on the challenge of running one marathon to fund raise for us is amazing, but for Dan to tackle seven is remarkable.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dan for taking on this challenge and good luck to all the runners.”
