Running the Herts 10K is a family affair

Ray, Luke and Mark

The Newton family, grandad Ray, son Mark and grandson Luke, have taken part in almost every Herts 10K race since they began. Luke, the youngest member of the family took part in his first Herts 10K in 2018.

Mark Newton tells us why he loves the race, “Twenty years ago there weren’t the running events you have nowadays, so the Herts 10K was a perfect opportunity to race and be a part of something in my home town where I grew up and especially for such a great cause. I love running the route, around the areas I know well, especially past my old school Roundwood Park and the Nicky line, back to Rothamsted.

“It’s always a great atmosphere, rain or shine. It’s a beautiful setting in a lovely town. For experienced runners, it’s competitive and a tough course but always well-supported and organised. For those running for a bit of fun or to raise money for such a great cause, it will be an enjoyable and safe experience.”

Any sponsorship you raise goes directly towards the specialist care and support we provide to local people with a life-limiting illness. Please consider setting up a JustGiving page and fundraising for Rennie Grove Peace.

We will have a t-shirt stand on the morning of the event, so please arrive with enough time to register and pick up your t-shirt , there’s no allocated changing rooms but we have toilets available on site.

Yes you can! As we endeavour to become an organisation that is committed to the environment, we invite all of our runners to wear their Herts 10K running tops from previous years. However, if you would like a new running top please can you let us know your size as part of the registration process.

We have a limited number of parking spaces at Rothamstead Research! There are also plenty of local car parks in Harpenden. We recommend that you give yourself plenty of time to park before registration.

Unfortunately, the terrain isn’t suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. Perhaps your little one could come along and be your number one fan!

The event is kindly sponsored by PB Donoghue, Plowman Craven and Allsopp.

Herts 10K has a 18-year history and a proud, local heritage. It was founded in 2006 by Rennie Grove Vice Patron and local businessman Lawrence Levy.

Since the first Rennie Grove Herts 10K in 2006, more than 18,000 participants have raised £1,623,924 for Rennie Grove. Your support means our nurses have been able to care for more patients in your local community and we look forward to raising even more for Rennie Grove Peace!
